A Bargain to be Had at Martin and Osa
For the longest time, I didn't know
Martin and Osa even had a retail store. Their prices are so low that I always imagined that they ran their business out of a huge warehouse somewhere and that their nice-looking website was, well, all they could afford.
How wrong I was!
Martin and Osa has beautiful retail stores all over the country. Still, even after I discovered a retail outlet in Century City not far from my house, I find that I do most of my
Martin and Osa shopping online.
You see,
Martin and Osa has terrific sales, and they have them a lot. It's not infrequent for me to receive a 30 percent off coupon via email, then to go their site and find that the clothes have already been marked down to half off.
The
Nautical Stripe Sweater pictured above was $69.50 but inexplicably is on sale for $24.95. With prices like these, when I need new clothes and I need them on sale, why would I go anywhere else?

Urbanears Plattan Headphones
Though I"m normally partial to in-ear headphones, I decided to give the Urbanears Plattan headphones a whirl and was very impressed.
I admit to being a sound snob. I usually go toting around in $600 professional headphone gear, so I was skeptical about anything with a $60 price tag. I"m pleased to report, however, that these stylish, full-sized headphones delivered great sound that was music [pun intended] to these audiophile ears. I plugged into my iPhone and cranked some thumping dance tunes. Clear, rich sound with no bass breakdown or muddiness. Their adjustability even made them start off comfortably on my fat head and their light weight made them stay comfortable.
The Plattans feature an in-line microphone and remote compatible with the iPhone and Nokia, HTC and Blackberry phones along with two extra cable extensions making the headphones compatible with a majority of all devices. Also featured is the "zound plug" which allows you to daisy-chain another set of headphones to let a friend listen in. This set also folds up to a neat, compact size for convenient transport. And, finally, the best part.... 14 fashionable colors to choose from, with everything from basic black to ocean blue and salad green.
Great listening at a great price.

A Breezy Jacket for Spring
I was flipping through
New York Times Magazine and I came across a look I loved: a light blazer over a breezy summer shirt, complimented by a few delicate gold chains. Easy, simple to wear, and completely comfortable with jeans, shorts or khakis. Perfect for Spring.
I was gratified to find exactly what I was looking for on the
Banana Republic website where the jackets aren't expensive. The
Fitted Crinkle Chino Blazer is only $130.00.
The key word here is "fitted". I remember when Banana made everything in a box shape. How things have changed! Reviews on the Banana website even complain that the jacket runs small. Fortunately,
Banana Republic offers free returns within 45 days, so sizes can be adjusted.
It's always a good day when a look from
The New York Times can be had at Banana Republic - makes me feel like I've gotten a deal.... for a steal!

Appropriate clothing for young girls
© orangeacidLittle girls are growing pretty fast today and are getting fascinated by the glamour world in terms of clothing. At times they end up wearing clothes which may not be suitable for them at such a young age and therefore their mothers need to act restraint so that their girls don't end up going in the wrong direction.
Here are some clothing tips for dressing up your growing girl:
Opt for
children's clothes which emphasize the face of your girl and not other parts of the body. Cute blouses or dresses with collar or ruffle near the neck would work best for them.
Opt for clothing which is neither too tight nor too loose and at the end of the day the piece of clothing should fit her appropriately.
Your teenage clothing should never expose her belly button, cleavage, stomach or rear.
Also ensure that her undergarments don't show through her dress and her skirts and shorts must not be shorter than finger tip length as you would not like her private parts to show through dress unknowingly.
Don't permit your girl to wear thong underwear as it could move around and start showing.
Your teenage girl should also not wear clothing with words written across the buttocks or chest as it could draw unwanted attention.
These are some of the tips which must be kept in mind while dressing your young girl. Just remember that the safety of your young life is in your hands.

The Boyfriend Jacket
The boyfriend blazer is back. Or it's not back, but rather, it's new. Or.... whatever. Anyway, it's what we're all supposed to be wearing. When I'm reborn as a six-foot, willow-thin model, I plan to follow every fashion trend, but until that day, I'll tailor them to fit my personal style.
And so,
this D&G blazer. I'm not quite sure how my boss would take it if I showed up in it with the shorts they picture it with. But as part of a suit, it's hot. A tailored blazer is just one of those incredibly sexy things. And I love that they pair it with a T-shirt.
The only bummer is that it's made with wool, which means it better come off the shelf fast before we're all on to the next thing for Spring. I hear see-through pink is the next big trend. Something to contemplate while I finish my bowl of ice cream.

Cosmetic Mirror Lets You Try on Makeup Virtually
Users simply stand in front of the computer"s camera and let it scan your face. The image is then loaded into the computer and it gives you a number of colors to try out. Users then select a color via touchscreen and the computer applies the makeup to the virtual image. If you like what you see, you can print out the photo and pick up your new cosmetics.
The Digital Cosmetic Mirror can apply eyeshadow and lipstick as well as recommend different products and makeup techniques. So far this is a Japan-exclusive but I would love to see this in my favorite cosmetic store in the near future,

Necklace and Bracelet
Take out those tea sets and polish off your plaid caps: "Alice in Wonderland" mania is on the horizon. And who better than Stella McCartney, whose youth-infused designs and spirit has made her a go-to designer for a legion of women, to partner with Disney Consumer Products on a limited edition jewelry necklace and bracelet inspired by the Tim Burton adaptation of the classic Lewis Carroll film. Using iconic images from the epic 3D fantasy tale, McCartney"s designs--hand made in Italy--feature the same light gold brass chain used in her best selling Falabella bag. Plexi Alice charms such as a rabbit, a Mad Hatter"s hat and a suit of spade, club, hearts and diamond adorn the chain while pearl baubles and Swarovski crystals accents provide a feminine touch. And because it"s Stella, we can say for certain: no White Rabbits were harmed in the making of these items.
Alice necklace, $425.00, and bracelet, $395.00, available next month at Stella McCartney stores worldwide

Denim Jacket Revival
I"ve had a denim jacket for years, and I almost never wear it. Sometimes I get jacket envy when I see cool girls wearing denim jackets on street style blogs, which is totally irrational because I happen to have practically the same jacket these girls are wearing. What I really envy is the fact that, unlike me, they actually wear the jacket. I appear to lack this ability. When I see these girls wearing flannel and denim it looks great, but somehow, standing in front of the mirror in the morning, the pairing doesn"t quite have the same flair. On me, it looks plain and easy. I"d rather wear flannel and my leather jacket if I"m going down that route, because at least leather has a bit more of an edge. So the jacket hangs from its hook (or, to be honest, lies crumpled on my floor somewhere) and is rarely taken out for a spin.
What I"m getting at here is that I think I need to make some changes to my denim jacket in order to actually wear it. My first idea on the subject was studs - I mean, you know I love me some studded denim - but that feels so done these days. I see that everywhere. Ditto chopping off the sleeves and making the jacket a vest. Ditto bleaching it. So what"s to be done? I dipped into my inspiration folder and emerged victorious! Check out this lovely little jacket:
I believe the model is actually wearing a patched vest over a torn up jacket, but it"s the combo that gets me. I love the ditzy florals and the way the rips temper the girliness factor. I think something similar could even be done with lace, although I really am partial to the floral prints.
However, if I lose my nerve when it comes to making such a feminine addition to my jacket, I think I could make a slightly punkier compromise.
Now don"t get me wrong - the jacket is staying a jacket. I can"t quite tell what is going on in this picture - it appears that either there is some kind of denim corset or the denim is actually cut into strips and attached to a blazer - but I"m not really concerned with the details. I like the ragged, contrasting strips of fabric and even the lopsided stars.
I"ve been home from school for about a week, and I"m getting fairly bored. I think it"s about time for a new project. Denim jacket resuscitation time, perhaps?

Freida Pinto and L'Oreal Go 360 Clean!
I"ve just learned the beautiful Indian actress, and star of hit movie, Slumdog Millionaire, Freida Pinto, is the new face of L"Oreal Go 360 Clean cleanser. I was very excited when I first heard that she would be joining the brand last year, and I like the pairing. This new L"Oreal cleanser is a true innovation for the mass market. The bottle contains a pop out "scrublet" which you apply one of the four cleanser types to and then use it to clean/exfoliate your skin (shown in video capture). Then you simply pop the scrublet back in the bottle when you"re done washing your face. Brilliant!

Fall Fashion: skirts, dresses and coats
I know it's rather difficult to think about coats when it's still so cold outside. As they say: better to plan ahead! So there you go: a skirt, a top and a coat - bubble style and affordable, waiting for you to posh up your fall wardrobe.
The bubble skirt - I found this one on
Anthropologie web shop. It's called a
Calligraphy skirt, and comes in a wonderful shade of red (cherry red I think). You should get this one not only because it's trendy, but also because red is THE color for fall. If red is still not your thing, consider getting this skirt in peacock or black. It's only $44, available at
Anthropologie.
The bubble top - For those still warm days of fall I suggest you put on the
Calvin Klein Bubble Top. It'll give you that romantic look you're yearning for with its lacy V-neck, and the mushroom color is just right to be taken seriously. If it gets cold, you can just put on a cropped jacket. The CK bubble top is available at
Nordstrom for $69.
The bubble coat - To be honest, this is really not a coat in terms of keeping you warm, but is cute enough to wear all through the fall and the spring of next year. It's Marc by Marc Jacobs Sateen Coat, in deep black. Te material and the color will surely give you all the glamour there is, and the cuteness will be achieved by the ribbon belt. Yours for (only?) $510 at Net-a-Porter.

Bucklette redefines the art of minimalism
Now that I think about it, my purse is perhaps one of the most abused and neglected denizens of my accessory world. There are "things" in there that get carried around for months without ever being used - medicines, a spare (dead!) cellphone, keys that open unidentified locks, unused jewelery. And the list gets faithfully updated as I discover one more useless item to thrown in and arm myself for an imagined emergency.
Given this background, accepting a purse like the Bucklette is a really big deal for yours truly. The Bucklette, designed by Sandy Alexander, is a stylish hands-free alternative to a purse that clips on to your belt and has room only for the bare essentials- a lipstick, couple of keys, some cash and ID. With the Bucklette you can get really minimalistic - atleast during those times when you want to roam really light.
Available either as a belt buckle ($112) or as a clip-on ($92). Now someone convince me that my purse is indeed passe.
